So, we've been kicking around four main ideas
here for improving student retention.
What I think we need to do here is decide
which ones we want to go ahead with.
So let's start with the
continuing-orientation program for freshman.
Where does each of you stand on that?
>> Well, I'm in favor of all of
the initiatives we've been discussing,
because I think all of them will help
solve some student-retention problems.
I mean, if we go straight down our list,
an orientation program that
extended into the first semester
would build in a support
group for freshmen,
and remind them of the help that's there
when they really do need it.
Extending the services
at the Bursar's Office
to include a crisis loan service
would help out those students
who have temporary
money problems.
And the crisis hotline for stressed-out students
is another cost-effective idea,
and I'm really kind of surprised
that a university of this size,
with as many non-traditional
students as we have -- >>
