Suzanne, we are really doing
these students a disservice
by implying that someone is always going to
be there to cater to their needs.
And I'm willing to be that
everybody around this table,
not one of us had the special kind of treatment
that we're planning on providing.

to be overly reliant
on institutions
instead of encouraging them
to be self-reliant.

And I'll tell you, we're not doing them
any service in the long run.

It is a fine line between helping
enough and helping too much.
For me, the issue is to what extent students
will be willing to take initiative
and take responsibility
for their own actions.
>> I'm glad to hear that.
>> For example, I see a difference
between expecting the university
to provide you a babysitter
whenever you want one
and making child care
available during class times.
Especially
when that child care
involves some sort of payback commitment
from the student in terms of time or money.
I guess I'm agree with Dale to the extent
that students do need to take some responsibility
for their actions.
